| All Materials are Not Created Equal. Different materials have different strengths and weaknesses, so before we recommend materials for your deck, we need to ask you a few important questions. What are you looking for in a deck? What part of Central Oregon do you live in? Do you have snow pack on your deck all winter or intense sun exposure year-round? Would you like low maintenance, or no maintenance?
Refer to the list below for more information and photos. Deck-adence can provide you with samples upon request.
Cedar- Impressive Versatility
Western Red Cedar is one of the most durable softwoods available. It is easy to work with and is commonly used in exterior decking, siding and furniture.
Tropical Hardwoods - Unparalleled Beauty from Tropical Hardwoods such as Ipe (ironwood), Mahogany, Brazilian Redwood
Tropical hardwoods are some of the most beautiful woods available today. Unique architectural looks are achieved with dark browns, brilliant reds and highly figured lumber.
Tropical hardwood decking products is one of the best choices for exterior decking. Hardwood is generally more durable, more resistant to scratching, easier to clean, and more beautiful than alternative products such as; treated softwood or composite decking.
A tropical hardwood deck is NOT a piece of furniture. It will not hold its original color over time. It will not be perfectly stable. In an exterior environment, all types of wood will move as they take on and lose moisture. Wood will check when it dries out. It may even split, requiring the replacement of boards over time.To keep your tropical wood deck looking good, we recommend pressure washing or sanding, followed by an oil coating. A good quality oil finish will last one to two years. After that time, the decking will begin to gray out or silver.
