| Comparing Apples to Apples and Crowns to Crowns.
It is important to compare the details of your deck bid. If the contractor does not list the details, call to ask--and then get it in writing. Are they using nails versus stainless steel screws for fastening? Are they quoting Douglas Fir while another is quoting Mahogany? The difference is in the details. A deck on pier blocks with nailed boards and leaking sap (Doug Fir will leak sap) is far less expensive than a poured concrete post base deck of clear cedar secured with hidden fasteners.
Real life references are important, so do not merely rely on reading testimonials the contractor gives you. Ask to speak to a “real life” customer, or better yet visit some of their customers’ homes to view their work. After receiving permission from our clients, Deck-adence oftentimes takes potential clients on a “tour of decks”.
